I am writing this newsletter to extend an invitation to study with our esteemed teacher Rama Jyoti Vernon, December 7 -10 (details below). When Lynne Moffitt and I opened Yoga Hanalei in 1997, the monks from the Kauai Hindu Monastery came to our shala to perform a blessing ceremony. At the end of the puja, one of the monks encouraged us by saying, "Perhaps this will become the site of a great Yoga University."
Soon thereafter, Rama Jyoti came and shared her deep knowledge and experiential wisdom of Yoga and the Patanjali Yoga Sutra. Her teachings forever left an imprint in our hearts and immensely elevated the teachings of our school. True to the spirit of a realized teacher, Rama inspires the possibilities of Yoga that reach far beyond the mat. Her work as a global peace activist has directly facilitated bringing global leaders together, as well as resolving conflicts and wars. She brings a profound depth of the ancient practices of Yoga with a quiet inner strength that is grounded in anatomy, psychology, physiology and the metaphysical sciences.
Many of the great masters within our lineage of Professor T. Krishnamacharya have passed on. Gone are the eminent teachers B.K.S. Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, and T.K.V. Deiskachar. I cannot emphasize enough what a privilege it is to have Rama, who has had direct contact with many of these teachers, come to our island of Kauai to share her experiences, knowledge and insights with our Yoga community. If you love what you have experienced at our school, then please make your best effort to attend her classes and do not hesitate to let us know how we can support you!

ABOUT RAMA: Rama began her interest in metaphysics and mysticism as a child and became one of America’s first Yoga teachers. She was instrumental in bringing many great Yoga masters from India to the US, co-founding Yoga Journal, Yoga Alliance, and Unity in Yoga, to unite all lineages of Yoga, In addition to her extensive background & knowledge of the Patanjali Yoga Sutra, Rama is extremely well versed in the philosophy, lineages and healing benefits of Yoga. Her unique approach emphasizes opening the body by extending the breath in each asana, as a deeply spiritual offering. She has dedicated her life in peace missions throughout the world, including the Soviet Union, the Middle East and Central America.
As it is said, although we understand our lives backwards, we must live life forwards. To have a mentor that has been initiated and grown from the challenges inherent to the spiritual journey, we can all learn so much from Rama. Not only are we spared unnecessary suffering, but we are offered a seasoned point of view that can propell us forward in our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual growth.
Many blessings to you and your loved ones!
