Aloha Yoga Kaua'i O'hana,
Happy Guru Purnima! This weekend's powerful full super moon lunar eclipse in Capricorn is a potent indicator of the wave of change we are in and the need to reevaluate and restructure our systems in place. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and governs all institutional structures and laws, while Cancer is ruled by the moon and governs our concerns about safety and the structure of our home life both emotionally and within our families.
In my book The Yogi's Roadmap, I write:
"Even if we were to devise infinite ethical codes, laws and regulations, until we choose to live with love, these laws will be of no lasting consequence to our personal and collective evolution.
Now is the time for us to truly walk our talk, heal our collective imprint and karma, and really make a difference. Integrating the metaphysical teachings with the practices prepares us to differentiate between confused priorities and valid concerns as well as the critical choices in exercising our freewill. We are hard-pressed to wake up to our potential power and to wield it for the benefit of the collective, Yoga puts the power back into our own hands and empowers us to help others to do the same."
During this time of restructuring, Yoga is needed now more than ever to open to new perspectives in co-creating a world that is safe and cares for all its inhabitants. I pray my offerings support you in this sacred work.
Guru Purnima honors the legacy of Love that is
perpetuated through the student-teacher tradition.
I offer Sahasrara Pranamas, a thousand bows to
my teacher Rama Jyoti and the wisdom she
has imparted to our global community!

This Friday, our online teacher training just passed the halfway mark, and I am amazed at how well the Zoom platform works. Not only am I able to include students as far as Europe, but so many students who could not make the journey to Kaua'i are finally able to explore the full eight-fold path of Patanjali's Yoga with me in depth. The online learning experience has rotated focus to be more internalized. I appreciate how intently each participant takes instruction and their depth of focus. Prior to quarantine, the majority of Yoga studio learning had morphed into a collective experience in which students and the teacher largely gathered to look at themselves in front of a mirror. There is a sacredness in online work that clears self-consciousness and inhibition. I am quickly adapting to it, and inspired by how effective my instructions are able to penetrate through the screen and the feedback from participants of how grateful they are. Perhaps Patanjali's story of requiring a screen between himself and his students portended this potent time we are in!
Jāti desha kāla samayānavacchinnāḥ sārvabhaumā mahāvratam The Yama are the great vows and are universal in their application, regardless of what status, era, place, or circumstance one is born into.
Yoga is sometimes confused as being a religion, when in fact, it is a path of universal spirituality that extends to sārva (all) bhaumā(spheres). The ten Yamaand Niyama predate Moses' ten commandments, and delineate the attitudes necessary for self-culture and the evolution of humanity as a whole. Yoga is not only concerned with the evolution of the individual, but includes the advancement of the collective consciousness, as the true aim of Yoga. In order to transcend our human condition, it is necessary to develop a perspective beyond one based solely on self-interest, and that includes synchronization with the cosmic order (bhandu).
Thank you for your love and in keeping the teachings of Yoga alive!
